The Problem

This stunning Tamahere homeowner had two key concerns: a large electricity bill and the risk of power outages.

Incon Automation designed a high-capacity solar and battery system to tackle both problems, generating more of the home’s own electricity while providing backup power when the grid goes down.

The Solution

We installed:

  • 19.0 kWp solar – 40 × 475 W Suntech panels

  • 20 kW three-phase Sigenergy hybrid inverter

  • 9 kWh usable battery storage

  • Sigenergy Gateway 2.0 HomePro for backup and off-grid capability

  • 20 kW WEL Networks-approved grid export

The system is programmed to prioritise the home’s energy needs. Solar power is used in the house first, surplus energy charges the battery, and additional excess can be exported to the grid.

A 10% battery reserve is maintained for backup.

Less Reliance on the Grid

The large 19 kWp solar array is designed to generate significant amounts of electricity throughout the day, helping reduce the amount of power the homeowner needs to purchase from the grid.

The battery then allows excess solar energy generated during the day to be stored and used when solar generation drops, helping the home make better use of its own energy.

For a household with a high power bill, the goal is simple: generate more of your own electricity, store what you don’t immediately use, and buy less from the grid.

Protection During Blackouts

Saving money wasn’t the only priority.

The Sigenergy Gateway 2.0 HomePro provides backup and off-grid capability, giving the home greater protection when the electricity network goes down.

Instead of relying entirely on the grid, the solar and battery system can provide an independent source of energy during an outage.

The Result

This Tamahere home now has an integrated energy system designed to solve two common problems:

High power bills → Generate and store more of your own electricity.
Blackouts → Keep energy available when the grid is unavailable.

With 19.0 kWp of solar, 9 kWh of usable battery storage and whole-home backup capability, the system provides a powerful combination of energy savings and resilience.

Have a High Power Bill or Worry About Blackouts?

You don’t necessarily need to accept high electricity bills or rely entirely on the grid.
Incon Automation designs solar and battery systems around how your home actually uses energy, helping you reduce your electricity costs and stay powered when the grid goes down.
